We would like to start off by saying thank you to everyone who came and for participating with some great ideas at the Youth Forum meeting III on Sunday, 17 January 2010. This meeting was really a chance to gauge people’s thoughts about the new KPS Youth Committee and to discuss the groups and their ideas.
After a brief introduction, we moved on and gave each group 15/20 minutes to discuss ideas. Attached to the notes is a list of the project groups for reference.
We did not have time to hear from each individual group, so we ask for each group to keep us informed as to their ideas. Please see the attached notes with more details regarding this. Once we have an idea as to what each group is planning we can keep everyone informed as to what is going on in our Youth Committee.
There were a few ideas that stood out. One was to organise a themed party along the lines of a 70’s/ABBA/Bollywood night. It’s basically a party not necessarily aimed at youths but a chance for us to say “The KPS Youth Committee Presents…”, to make a statement that were not just about having lots of meetings, we are doing things and this is the beginning. It is also a chance for us to get out of the winter doldrums and to socialise and get to know each other. There will be more discussions on this idea and a poll to decide when would be the best time and if people would be interested.
Another idea is collaboration with the Community Development Sub-committee in organising the Diwali function this year. This is a chance for us to put our views across and to have our ideas heard. The Diwali function is looking to be something different. As with the above idea it is also a chance for the wider community to see that the Youth Committee are actively involved.
We would also like to say thank you to Anand Vyas from the National Sewa Day Project who took time out to give us an introduction to his project. The National Sewa Day Project is one that is looking to transform society. Its premise is that on the 21st November 2010 and thereafter annually people take part in a Sewa activity which will help the environment, provide joy where none exists and helps the poor and needy. The only condition being that you are not allowed to raise money. Anand would like to work with the Youth Committee and perhaps more specifically the Charity group. He would like one person from the Youth Committee to act as a co-ordinator for National Sewa day. If you are interested in this role please contact us and we will give you more information and contact details for Anand. For more information regarding national Sewa day please see the website www.nationalsewaday.org.
There will be new timings for any further Youth Forum. There will be a poll to gauge people’s thoughts about what the best day and time will be.
We are very happy that so many of you are involved in the Youth Committee but we want more. It is not necessary that you are actively involved in the groups but we want you to be aware that we exist and of the work we are doing; we will be collecting everyone’s email addresses so we can keep everyone informed (also please join our KPS Youth Facebook group). The rationale behind the committee is not only to focus on these projects but to continually discuss any Samaj related issues and to achieve this we hope to improve communications and can only do this with your help.
If you have any comments or suggestions please e-mail kpsyouth@kpsuk.org or post them on facebook group KPS Youth Group UK.
