As approved in last AGM we are about to embark on extending our Kadwa Patidar Centre. This £1.8million extension project will be 5800 square feet in size and will provide us with additional facilities of a new dining hall, changing facilities and three additional rooms.
Scope of the work
We have identified that adding a Dining Hall will make our Centre more desirable for our use and for renting. It will provide a complete facility to compliment the Main Hall which will enable us to generate additional rental income. The double height space will also make this space suitable for other uses. The teaching spaces will allow us to continue our Gujarati classes in house. In adding the changing rooms the use of stage will be more practical and benefit the letting of the Main Hall for concerts and other stage managed programmes.

We must not forget that many of these activities enjoyed by our members are only made possible through the income generated by Hall lettings. .
These new facilities will not only allow us to continue with all of the existing activities but will fund new ones in future – such as upgrading the website, more activities for younger generation and sheltered housing.
Building & Fundraising Committee Meetings
Since the decision to start the extension was made in April 2009, the Committee has met seven times. However, many individual members of the Building & Fundraising committee have gone out visiting potential donors to raising funds.
Funding available and requirement
We have a shortfall of £600,000 which we are hoping to raise from the Members. Anticipated cost is 1.8M and we have £1.2m available to fund this project.
Funding the Shortfall
Two pronged approach.
Firstly:
- Letters have been sent out to Members soliciting for donations.
- We are making personal approaches to all age groups, particularly age 25/35 years, and those who have made no contributions for the Main Hall.
- We have formed fundraising groups by postcodes for targeting individuals.
Secondly by way of large donations:
1. Name of the Dining Hall £51,000: We now have a donor.
2. Foundation £35,000: We do not as yet have a donor for this
3. 3 x Rooms each @ £10,000: We have donors for all three.
4. 2 x Changing rooms: We now have donor for both.
5. 1 x Cold Storage Room: We have a donor for this
6. 20 x Plaques. So far we have 7 donors for the plaques.
Response to letters sent to different age groups
So far we have received fifty nine donations as a result of various letters. We can do better. Fundraising Committee Members will have to make greater individual endeavours to approach members who have not contributed so far to solicit donations for this worthy cause.
How the Funds were raised in 1992
In 1992, we were able to build the Main Building because many members donated very generously. Building & Fundraising Committee worked tirelessly for a period of more than one year. We used to have meet two times a week. We regularly phoned and re-phoned potential donors! We would not easily take “no” for an answer. In numerous cases we paid personal visits to have tea with the potential donors! With your continued support we have been able to go from strength to strength. We are an envy of other Hindu communities and they wonder how a small community like ours can undertake such a large project. Remember, your support is vital.
Fundraising Progress
We need many more donations particularly from those who have made no contributions so far and in the age group 25/35years that are doing well financially. Remember this Samaj belongs to us all.

We are requesting
· Members above age of 35 to make a minimum Donation of £300,
· Members between age of 25- 35 years to make a minimum donation of £200
· Members between age of 18 – 24 to make a minimum donation of £100

Benefits for the younger generation
Once it is completed, the new building will make our Hall competitive in terms of facilities offered, and this in turn will secure an increased income for the Samaj for many years to come. It will allow us to undertake a range of new projects the younger generation would like to see.
